The draw results for 2025 are out and from what I hear, the moose categories were fairly successful. Keep an eye out for undersubscribed licenses for cow elk in many of the zones north of Edmonton. The archery season starts a lot sooner and the only down side I found is that the meat has to be cleaned and chilled as soon as possible. A warm fall means that the hunter should be ready to process his meat asap and they should have a place to go to. The butcher I spoke to at the Idaho conference said he just about was sick with a elk carcass he rejected. The animal was dropped the day before and wasn’t skinned or gutted. Rookie hunters need guidance from some of you old pros out there. I have heard some similar stories here in sunny Alberta. What some people call a wild game taste to the meat is often caused by poor meat management.

CLUB MEETING this July 29 at the Godberson room next to the pool in Barrhead at 7:00 pm. See you there—–Joe
