Climate change or the warming of our winters has been cited as one of the main causes of the increase of population of the TICK parasite that makes its home on our moose every winter. The results on the moose population can be devastating. Most people that hunt, notice the poor condition of the animals toward spring. The animals are skinny, weak from loss of hair and blood. My neighbor found a young moose last March, dead in his flower bed by his house. The state of Maine is taking their damaged moose problem seriously. They collared about 100 moose calves and by spring, 86 were dead. Cause of death. Carcases tested and over 60 died from Tick infestation. SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM—Take away the host(moose), to get the Ticks to die out over time by handing out a lot more hunter tags to drop the moose population to very low numbers. Then and only then, no hunting till the numbers come back up. A multi year project. It could happen here. Time to wait and see what ticks and CWD leave us to hunt.
Your range is getting ready for end of summer season. ARCHERS– your time for the 3-D range is going to end very soon. I will post as to the date the targets are removed. LONG GUN PEOPLE, the sight in time is now as the benches get very busy next month. AND NO, we will NOT be adding any more sight in benches.
