It looks like the rain is finally starting to let up a bit and maybe we can use the range a bit more. Our grasscutter was having one heck of a time in trying to maintain the range grass and not leave ruts out in the fields and shooting areas. It’s all done and we’re open for you to get out there.
Our membership drive for this year is about 5/6 done. Once we fill that number, we will not be taking on any more members for this year. If you are thinking about joining for this year, it’s time to get moving. The group that rejoins to sight in their rifles just before hunting season, may want to start a tad early this year.
CWD is on the move west again. The Americans are taking this disease very serious. I just returned from a conference in Idaho and there were new rules for processing Elk and Deer this year. Your animal must be broken down and frozen with a negative CWD test before they will process the meat for you. The packer that spoke said that he has already about 150 reservations for processing and hunting season is still in the fall. He expects that they will do about 500 Elk. What is amazing, is that they were shut down on wild game for the last four years. All the hunters I spoke to down there want to get a moose, but they have to wait a long time for a draw..
REMEMBER, that your club will have a table at the ANNUAL TRAPPERS JAMBORIE in Westlock, July 17 &18. Hope to see you there—Joe
